(Brush collection will end across the entire borough as we prepare for leaf collection season.) - Yard Waste Pickup Deadline:
All yard waste must be placed along the roadway by Monday, September 29 for pickup. This applies to all areas of the borough, including both sides of the main road. Please ensure your items are out by the deadline to avoid missing pickup. - Self Drop-off Area Closing: The DPW Self Drop-off Area will close for the season on October 4. Be sure to drop off any remaining yard waste before this date.

New Yard Waste Drop-Off Site – Open Saturdays at the DPW Yard
We’re pleased to offer a self-service Yard Waste Drop-Off Site exclusively for Matamoras Borough residents, located at the DPW Yard (Avenue Q, next to the Fire Department)
📅 Opening Date: Saturday, July 12, 2025 Closing Date: Saturday, October 4, 2025
🕗 Hours of Operation: Saturdays only, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
✅ Accepted Yard Waste:
- Grass clippings
- Leaves
- Tree clippings
🚫 Not Accepted:
- Plastic bags or containers
- Logs
- Stumps
- Commercial or contractor drop-offs
Please note: This service is for residential use only. Commercial landscapers and contractors are not permitted to use the site.
All yard waste must be removed from plastic bags prior to disposal.
The site is under 24-hour video surveillance to ensure proper use and compliance.
We thank our residents for their cooperation in keeping our community clean and green.
Yard waste shall be picked up along the roadway when it meets the following requirements:
- Waste is placed in a container no larger than 45 gallons and is marked “yard waste”. Please secure it with a cover to keep rainwater out or drill drainage holes in the bottom of the can.
- In paper bags made for yard waste. These bags are sold at most local hardware stores. Anything in a plastic bag will not be collected.
- The container must not exceed 50 pounds.
- All branches must be cut to a maximum length of six (6) feet with a maximum diameter of two (2) inches. Logs and stumps will not be collected. Smaller branches should be tied in bundles when applicable.
- Grass clippings and leaves also need to be placed in containers. Clippings and leaves will not be collected if they are loose on the ground.
- No animal waste
These requirements are to ensure that collection is performed in a safe and timely manner. Please contact the borough office for any questions or concerns.
LEAF PICKUP—CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES
Leaves should be raked to the edge of pavement or the grassy area between the sidewalk and piled close to the curb. Please DO NOT push leaves into the street as it is a public safety hazard.
Bush, branches, limbs, grass clippings, yard waste are NOT to be put in the leaf piles. This will cause damage to the machine. Piles containing a mixture of waste and leaves will not be picked up.
